Townsville's Eco Fiesta & Smart Lifestyle Expo
Recently Queensland Country Credit Union was a proud sponsor of the 2010 Environmental Awards that were announced at Townsville's Eco Fiesta and Smart Lifestyle Expo. The Community Group Award, sponsored by Queensland Country Credit Union, was to be awarded to a community group that had made a significant contribution towards environmental improvement, nature conservation or sustainability.
The winners were Kith and Kin for their project "Leadership in promoting climate change awareness and implementing sustainability initiatives." In 2009, Kith and Kin installed a 6.6kw solar system consisting of 40 panels at their Townsville city office building. They estimated they are now saving one third of their quarterly electricity bill and saving approximately 7.056 tonnes of carbon each year. Kith and Kin also distribute an environmentally focused newsletter each month to encourage sustainability in the community.
Queensland Country Credit Union CEO, Aileen Cull, presented the Award along with $1,000.
