Meet Sean. He’s one of Queensland Country’s SmartBudget Specialists at the Aitkenvale branch in Townsville.
When it comes to clever bill paying and removing bill stress, SmartBudget helps you set your budget for the year ahead.
Sean has been part of the Queensland Country team for nearly three years and was one of our first specialists trained when we relaunched SmartBudget (previously known as Bill Paying) in November 2015. “A SmartBudget Specialist is someone who has a very good understanding of how the system works and knows its ins and outs”, says Sean.
“It’s also someone who can simplify the system when discussing it with Members, so all parties clearly understand what the product is about and what it can do for them.”
A day in the life of a SmartBudget Specialist is all about assisting Members with their SmartBudget account. It’s also about taking appointments for new agreements or for existing agreements that need adjusting or renewing at the end of the 12-month contract period.
When he isn’t busy assisting Members and new visitors in branch, you can find him at home in his garage detailing cars and working on his own personal car.
We sat down to learn a little bit more about him and why he loves SmartBudget…
What’s the best part about your role?
It would have to be the diversity that I experience every day. Here at Aitkenvale, we have a very high volume of SmartBudget Members, so each and every day is completely different, which I like very much.
How long does it take to set up a SmartBudget account?
From start to finish, the time can vary depending on the volume of bills we’ll be adding to the account and what comparison we can do on some of your bills to see where there might be savings. Because we pay a lot of bills, we know what products and services offer good value for money are and sometimes our Members find that there are better options available to them just by going through this first step.
If you’re interested in learning more or setting up a SmartBudget account, what should you have organised before your appointment?
My biggest tip is to have a good understanding of your current finances and what your existing outgoing expenses are for your day to day living. There are a few documents we require for the initial appointment, such as copies of current bills, payslips and any insurance policies that you’d like a comparison of.
Do you have a SmartBudget account yourself?
Yes I absolutely do! It’s made budgeting easier for me. I don’t have to worry about receiving a power bill or registration bill, because those funds are already budgeted for in my fortnightly deposit. Money and bills are awful things to stress about and I love that this product removes this stress and I can get on with other things in my life.
What’s your favourite SmartBudget feature and why?
It would have to be the ‘Rainy Day’ balance, which eliminates you having to put additional money towards a bill that exceeds what you’ve allocated for it - providing you’ve over allocated for your other bills of course.
Note from the editor: To find out more about the ‘Rainy Day’ balance and how it works visit our SmartBudget FAQs.
It’s obvious you’re a big fan of SmartBudget, so overall why do you love it?
Overall it’s a fantastic product that has changed so many Members’ lives for the better. We have many Members who now cannot live without it, so it’s a great thing to be a part of. Plus it’s a really unique product as we’re the only financial institution to offer something like this in Queensland.
